Some of you may/may not have heard about the upcoming film Cherrybomb, starring Rupert Grint (best known for his role in Harry Potter) alongside fellow young leads Kimberly Nixon and Robert Sheehan, with James Nesbitt.

Since its announcement last year there has been a lot of buzz surrounding this film, which has already played at Berlinale and the Dublin Film Festival, and it showed at Cannes as well.

However, as you will probably have heard (or guessed) by now, the global economic downturn is having a very negative affect on the distribution of independent films, and Cherrybomb - like many others - is under threat. Distributors are now far more reluctant to buy such films, and they are being sent straight to DVD.

I think it's pretty safe to say that there are a lot of people out there that want to see Cherrybomb. But unless potential distributors can be confident of this, the film may never reach the cinemas.

For this reason, Rupert fansite Ice Cream Man and The Little Film Company (the studio behind the picture itself) have launched the Official Cherrybomb Campaign in order to ensure the widest possible cinematic release for the film.

There are six separate petitions targeting the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Italy and Brazil. Those countries were chosen according to statistics on areas who have either viewed the Cherrybomb trailer or shown the most interest in websites/communities that link Rupert Grint news.

I'm usually very skeptical of online petitions, but in this case, I would like to try and get the message across that this petition actually can make a difference. As I mentioned above, it is endorsed by The Little Film Company, who need to demonstrate that this movie has the support out there it needs to get a cinematic release. They are aiming to get as many signatures as possible.

Right now, the campaign is trying especially hard to get more UK support, which why these forums seem the right place to post this. If there is anyone from the UK - not just Rupert Grint fans - who would be interested in seeing this picture, please sign the UK petition and show your support. However, if you are not from the UK and would like to support this film, please go ahead and sign the petition for whichever country is closest to you:

United States Cherrybomb Petition
United Kingdom Cherrybomb Petition!!
Brazil Cherrybomb Petition
Germany Cherrybomb Petition
Italy Cherrybomb Petition
France Cherrybomb Petition

I was lucky to see Cherrybomb at Jameson Dublin Film Festival in February; it's awesome. You can read my review on IMDb here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1248971/usercomments (the first review on the page).
