G-Spot: a tool for identifying what codec is being used by a video file.
FreeCodecs.com Codecs and video conversion tools. Essential site.
Sandra Lite Superb comprehensive diagnostic tool.
The Free Country Masses of links to free utilities (guaranteed virus free).
I've been using all of these for years on different operating systems with never a problem.
Anyone want to add some more?

Send and receive huge files of any type (up to 1000 MB) without the need for a email client at either end to handle the transaction

yousendit is cool. However I've had problems with zip files with large numbers of wavs in. I once tried sending some Acid loops, and though yousendit uploaded them, no-one could download. So if you also get that, it's a system fault and here's what you should do:
Give up.
